History of the Bayside Business Association and a special Thank you to Judy Limpert

The BBA was founded by Judith Limpert in April, 1997 when the Bayside Chamber of Commerce went defunct and left the community in need of a support center for local businesses and an organization to continue important Bayside traditions, like the holiday lights on Bell Boulevard.

At the time, her employer, North Fork Bank underwrote the $15,000 to cover the cost of the holiday lights, but Judy knew the community could not always count on the generosity of the bank to continue this tradition and decided to collect $100 from the merchants on Bell Boulevard and have them invest in this tradition the community came to expect on an annual basis. Judy recognized the void, not having a Chamber in Bayside and knew something had to be formed. With encouragement from Vicky Schnepps and the help of Senator, Frank Padavan, the BBA was established and for the past 25 years, Judith, along with the support of BBA members through the years, has managed and operated this organization providing support to our local businesses and the community at large – and all on a voluntary basis.

With Judy at the helm, the Bayside Business Association has, not only help keep long-standing

traditions like the holiday lights on Bell Boulevard going, but has helped support new businesses

opening in the neighborhood, has provided coats to local families in need, has worked on

beautification projects, and took ownership of reviving the former LIRR freight building – now

home to the BBA.

Judith Limpert has been an integral part of the Bayside Community. For 25 years she has

quietly worked behind the scenes to make Bayside a better place to live and work – and without

her, it would just not be what it is today.

Although Judy has taken a step back from her workload at the BBA, she still serves on its Board

of Directors and continues to work as the Branch Manager at Dime Community Bank. We want to thank her for her contributions to the business districts of Bayside and to the community as a whole over the past 25 years. We look forward to carrying on your legacy for the next 25.
