Welcome to the Bayside Business Association's FIRST ANNUAL Small Business Saturday®

The Bayside Business Association has partnered with American Express as this year’s Neighborhood Champion. As an AMEX neighborhood champion, the BBA will have the opportunity to bring the Bayside community together and Shop Small on Small Business Saturday® and throughout the holiday season.

Shop Small® is a movement that supports small, independent businesses and spotlights their valuable contributions to their communities and the economy. The Shop Small movement was inspired by the widespread participation in Small Business Saturday®, a day founded by American Express in 2010 on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Now a national holiday, Small Business Saturday is dedicated to celebrating small businesses by helping to drive more customers through the doors of retail stores, restaurants, fitness studios, salons — and everything in between. Mark your calendars, this year it falls on November 26th and the BBA is ready to help drive business to you!

Participating businesses will receive the following:

• The BBA will promote your business’s unique Shop Small promotion on the BBA website, in the newsletter, and on social media

• Support from American Express with promotional items and a spot for your business on the American Express Shop Small map

For our retail businesses:

SHOPPING – FALL CRAWL

In the spirit of Small Business Saturday®, shoppers can get their holiday shopping done early – and at a discount – with our Fall Crawl Shopping Event. Participating retailers can offer exclusive discounts for ONE DAY ONLY to attract and draw in customers. In order to help support you, the BBA will promote the offers of participating businesses up to and the day of the event.

Want to add a special feature to attract even more business?

We encourage participating businesses to collaborate with local artists to help highlight their talents and create an extra draw to come into your place of business. We encourage you to invite them to set up a one-day pop-up gallery, pop-up shop, or put on a performance – the possibilities are endless. Collaboration is what will make this event so special.

For our dining businesses:

Bayside has some of the greatest restaurants and eateries around. Small Business Saturday® is the perfect opportunity for those businesses to bring in foodies and patrons, alike. From holiday-themed cocktails, menus, sweets and treats, and exclusive discounts, participants will get a chance to sample the latest and greatest offerings from our local eateries and watering holes. Visitors will have an opportunity to stop in at our renowned spots for a special experience.

Participating restaurants can offer various options, for example:

• a signature cocktail and appetizer

• a Small Business Saturday® special menu

• special desserts

• drink specials

• discounted tabs

Want to add a special feature to attract even more business?

If some businesses find their bread and butter really comes from its take-out customers, we didn’t forget you. For those participating eateries, we would encourage offering patrons a discount on their bill or send a special appetizer on the house.

Participating businesses can offer exclusive discounts for Small Business Saturday® (or for the entire weekend) to attract and draw in customers and the BBA will promote the offers of participating businesses up to and the day of the event.

For those who don't have a brick and mortar:

Don’t have a brick & mortar for your business? No problem. We can still promote your business too!

Small Business Saturday® PROMOTIONS

If you are a service that is closed on the weekends or doesn’t have a brick & mortar building, we wouldn’t want to leave you out. Those members can simply share a promotion, a new service, new goods, or an article pertinent to your business (something in relation to the holiday season always works well) and we will share that information on the BBA website, social media platforms, and any printed material (where applicable).

If your business accepts American Express, please be sure to sign up to be put on the American Express Shop Small Map. We will then share it on our website and in our social media promotions, as well.

POST YOUR OWN SOCIAL MEDIA PROMOTIONS OR LIKE AND SHARE OURS

When you do post on social media, be sure to use #AmexSBSChampion to join the conversation with your Neighborhood Champion community. You should also use #ShopSmall to help rally shoppers. Feel free to use it in a sentence, at the end of your post, or as part of an image. Be sure to use #SmallBizSat as often as possible to get the word out about the big day.
